Specialty Practice Areas

Dean Kinsey:

Do you know of any resources/agencies/boards etc. for a student interested in labor and employment law, but not necessarily practicing it in a firm? I know there's the NLRB, but after that it gets fuzzy.

Thanks so much,

Students interested in labor and employment law should check out the website of the Peggy Browning Fund. The PBF website has job postings, internship opportunities, and conference information. Log onto http//www.peggybrowningfund.org
They also have an excellent student conference that is usually in the fall.

Practical Experience for the PT Division

Short-term assignments from attorneys are a great way for students who work full-time positions outside the legal arena to get practical work experience. For those who are interested, check with the president of the AR Trial Lawyers Association/Student Division, Jason Johnson. Put a note in ATLA's mail box. ATLA maintains a data base of job listings from member attorneys for student members. Some are short term assignments that would allow you to work on your own time, and not require that you put time in at an office.

You should also consider one of the legal clinics. I highly recommend the litigation clinic (these are classes). The litigation clinic is a wonderful way to learn how to practice and get the practical experience you want before graduating!

Do you have any suggestions regarding how students who must work full-time can get legal experience? I'm still a 2L - PT, but am becoming concerned that I may not be able to experience legal work before graduation. Please advise.
